Historically, Ampang was a tin mining settlement under British colonial rule and after independence. A historic portion of Kuala Lumpur called Ampang is situated in the state of Selangor. The Ampang Road and Ampang Hilir are where it is located in Kuala Lumpur. East of the heart of Kuala Lumpur is where Ampang is located. Even after the Malaysian government moved to its new administrative centre in Putrajaya, several embassies in the Ampang region still remain there. In the direction of Kuala Lumpur's downtown area lies the National Art Gallery. It features imaginative and modern sculptures and works of art.
